i said eighty percent.
for some reason this didnt make her very happy.
she said why dont you tell me everything. i said do you have any idea all the madness running through this head? she said but i love that head, and she kissed me on my forehead.
i said i have seventeen international fast food concepts, six blooks, eighteen blogs, and eighteen thousand and fifty alt rock band names constantly stirring in my skull. music video ideas, fantasy basketball moves, and secret ways to get anna kournikova back.
still not happy.
but still said, of all the things we talk about thats not twenty percent.
i said i have iphone application ideas, new breakdancing moves (because there havent been any new ones for two decades), screenplays based on historical romantic novels, things i would whisper in yr sisters ear if we were ever handcuffed and being held hostage by terrorists who were videotaping us and broadcastng it across terroristland.
she was all please dont ever whisper anything in my sisters ear.
and after i went through the first hundred alt rock band names, she stopped feeling bad that i held back 20 percent of what was truly spinning through my head.
we invented rock music and all, right?
problem is we have a sorta good adult quasi rock station and a formerly good “alternative” station and thats about it.
the heavens opened up a few years ago and gave us Indie 103.1 – great music, cool dj’s (a few who were rock heroes), and even more great music.
of course it couldnt last and today it turned into a spanish language station.
the reaction here in LA was best captured in my chat with karisa who just happens to be in the south of france right now, thus out of the loop.
me: did you hear about Indie 103?
Karisa: NO. what?!
me: en espanol!
Karisa: excuse me?
me: its a spanish station now. just for you
please tell me that you are [censored] kidding
how on earth would that actually happen?
honestly, i think that i may start crying if that is the case
me: Pop & Hiss our music blog got a former Indie dude write in, but heres the official story
Karisa: i am genuinely sad
like almost devastated
me: i have a feeling Jonesy will probably get picked up by KROQ
he was the only one i ever listened to
other than henry rollins
and dave navarro, of course
but on the regular, it would have been jonesy
twitter user jkrums (who sorta looks like a male model, ladies) took this amazing photo of the plane crash while he was on a ferry. he took it using an iPhone and uploaded it via Twitter.
although people often whine that blogging and using social media is a glorified version of navel gazing, they shut right up when theres a tragedy or emergency and all of that practice comes into great use.
second best picture of the day by grego!
yes the Times has had great coverage, but i gotta take my hat off to my old boss Jen Chung who has covered this beautifully on Gothamist.
if you dont know who he is you probably dont read many political blogs. heres how me and raymi discussed it earlier today
do you have any idea how big that blog is?
but im getting major hits
me: #21 in the world
me: british, gay, sometimes republican, catholic, married to a guy, long time blogger
raymi: has he linked u ever
me: way back when i wrote about politics, but not in a long time. so you should feel honored, amazed, thankful, because often he writes about politics, not personal-bloggers. matt good is the type of guy he should be linking to, but instead i think he links to righty blogs
raymi: well he did make a little dig with his link
me: you might get some more from other sites/blogs cuz he has lots of influence among political bloggers and non political bloggers
me: can i post this chat?
raymi: only if u chang that stupid picture of me u chose yesterday
me: LOVE that pic! did Duane take that one?
raymi: HATE that photo
me: ahhh. thus the look of love
