today is raymi the minx’s birthday

    shes 23

i often call raymi the worlds greatest blogger but thats only in her dreams.

im of course the worlds greatest blogger, but raymi is my favorite one.

she does everything right. everything perfect. everything the way it should be.

she blogs every day, she shows you everything, she tells you everything.

she writes about being mad or sad or good or bad. she takes photos of just about everything other than her poop.

she videos herself cooking and cleaning and drinking and mixing drinks and dancing and stripping and riding in a car and lounging with sass.

raymis always up to something. shes always doing something.

    her blog is in motion.

    hyper motion.

    its her secret sauce.

    it makes it perfect.

it doesnt hurt that she can look great in anything,

it also doesnt hurt that her bf is an excellent photographer, and an absolute gentleman with excellent taste in music.

oh im sorry did i say boyfriend, i meant fiance.

its amazing that raymi hasnt become a reality tv star by now but thats probably because shes from canada.

    americas toupee.

upon which raymi is the hello kitty barrette.

  2. today is @ev ‘s birthday

when he helped create Blogger.com he was just ev, but now that he helped create twitter he is @ev.

@ev is partially responsible for the busblog and one of the main reasons that i have stayed loyal to Blogger.

@ev is not just a really smart man but almost everything he has touched has broken

and then it turned to gold.

recently @ev went to washington to meet with our president of the united states @barackobama. i believe that one thing he was able to teach the president was how to deal with things when they are broken and breaking so that you can reap the rewards once it’s fixed.

anyone can create something good. but how many can create something thats good, that has flaws, that runs across negative issues, that can then come out victorious in the end?

    not many.

our economy is going through that right now, and who better than @ev to coach @president about the @disaster.

one thing i like about @ev is he keeps his team small. the Blogger team was about a dozen people or less. currently, believe it or not, the Twitter team is just 25 people. i also like that he took a good chunk of those blogger teammates and had them work with him at Twitter.

i also like that he is leading this new thing and not some douche from silicon valley.

    i trust @ev.

i think everyone does, which is why Twitter is secretly doing so well.

happy birthday @ev! thanks for blogger, which has gotten me everything in my adult life that i could ask for, and now its fun to teach these crazy people at the LA Times about blogging and twittering (two things i do a majority of my days.)

    bottoms up!

update: just found this interesting video interview i did with @ev in November of ’06 when Twitter was just a few months old. for some reason it got edited poorly in the middle but its still cool:

  3. grates were on fire last night

being monday spaceland was packed because admission was free and there were two, count em two big bands fixin to play: nico stai and australias the grates.

grates took the stage first at 10pm which was a huge mistake for nico because Patience has a way of stealing a crowd and making you forget that there are any other bands in existence.

she woos the boys she woos the girls, she dances like a freak with ants in her pants, she smiles she jokes she is clearly having the most fun of anyone in the house and that joy is contagious.

silver lake and particularly Spaceland can come across as too-cool-for-school and judgmental and jaded and for the first half of the 45 minute set the crowd just stood there and watched. they may have had smiles on their faces but they didnt bop their heads they didnt dance they just witnessed their own baptism.

it wasnt until near the end of the set did they realize “oh, theyre good and these songs are instantly approachable and easy to get. fine, we’ll allow ourselves to party” and thats when the dance party started.

which was too bad for nico and his band of jersey boys because when a crowd peaks at 10:45pm on a school night and you dont hit the stage till 11:15 then once again the grates have won.

we know this in part because the grates’ merch sold out (except for Mens shirts, size small, perfect for the echo park hipster on your twitter feed) and there were plenty of crud from everyone else.

because i got there a tad late i got to see the entirety of spaceland entranced by Patience and it took a while to wend my way into the main rock area and then a few more song to get to the front row. no one was moving, no one was leaving to get beers, and no one was peeing. they all wanted to see what magic was inside this trio (plus their pal on keyboards).

that mystery remains but you can investigate it on their US release Gravity Wont Get You High, and their import only (get it on ebay) Teeth Lost, Hearts Won.

word from the band is they will return to the states in the summer so get ready to find a new band to totally love.

one of the more interesting things about the changes here at the times

is that not one person who came from LAist has gone away

sadly that streak has ended with the lovely ali miller

the good news is ali is leaving on her own terms, to pursue a career in exotic modeling

    we wish her well.

update: turns out ms. miller is not entering a “career” in said field (that was just a thank you image). in actuality she is going to be working with one of the leaders in the video game world, an area that she totally excels in. to a scary extent.

  5. went to the hood yesterday on a date

to see how she could hang

went to the other donut place in inglewood that has a donut on the roof

then had some delicious soul food at Berthas

bertha has a beautiful list of rules which we tried to obey

berthas kids run the front, her husband sits by the door and says “Yeah!” when you enter and when you exit.

we found some hair in the cornbread

    and then in the chicken.

didnt stop me one bit, but the date was not at all impressed. more on her later.

  6. something for tony

the busblog hasnt asked much of you all in quite a while. used to be a time when id ask my lovely readers for money, or dates, or really outrageous things. but in the last few years, to be honest, i havent needed a damn thing.

    today i need your help.

a few months ago i switched servers. it was a move that was seamless for most of you. i quietly moved from the sweet soft servers of Nothing Special over to the industrial strength love of canadas Media Temple.

all was well except for one thing – Google started indexing the busblog as if it was some new thing. and the search results that this 8 1/2 year old blog used to get naturally were suddenly not there.

the most damaging was the result for my name, tony.

so this is what im asking of you. lots of you link to me, and for that im indebted, big time. but many of you link to me as “tony pierce” or “da blogfather” or “my babys daddy” ect. and sometimes you link to my how to blog rules or to just tonypierce.com

all of those things are super nice, but lets try this one thing.

just link to me using the single word “tony”, and make the url http://www.tonypierce.com/blog/bloggy.htm

once there was a time when this humble blog would rank in the top 3 simply for “tony”, and even though im now in the front page of results for that word Ocassionally, if we organized who knows what might happen.

so if you could, and would, change your links that would be oh so swell.

    gratzi, tony

when i was in austin, almost every day someone said tony pierce?

it was always a reader of the busblog, which surprised me for some reason, because i had thought that the busblog had lost all its steam. so not so.

one of the first times that this happened to me i was heading over to the casino de great hamburgers place and i heard this voice yell out

    tony pierce?

being that i had just come from a mixer and had downed a few start-me-ups, i thought i was hearing voices.

but no, it was michael castellon and his lovely bride.

we all took pictures and today he uploaded this one.

ah the past… its always in black n white.

  8. do you feel sometimes that your whole life is sundays

Dan: Two part question: a) Can O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh be stopped/shutted (not a word?) the f up? b) Is it because I’m canadian that I wish Jon Stewart would run for congress and then President? Or are there Americans down there that share my sentiment?

what exactly do you want o’reilly and rush to stop doing? if you want jon stewart to run for congress then that probably means you lean left. and if thats the case then theres no better argument for liberalism than the things that come out of o’reilly and rush’s mouths. the o’reilly/limbaugh act has helped catapult msnbc from otherwise obscurity to the #2 prime time cable news network. cnn is #3. with rush and limbaugh theres no worst person in the world, thus no keith o or rachel. if you hate the gop enough to wish that a comedian like stewart would run for congress then you should pray for the health of the factor and rush – and hope that their shows get sent through every medium possible. not only do they make obama seem even smarter and more reasonable in comparison, but they make us all seem smarter and more reasonable.

sass: I have to miss my call back audition slot for a MuchMusic VJ position because I will be in Hong Kong. What should I do to convince them to see me a week later when I’m back in Toronto? or y’know HIRE ME already?

write them a letter on that leopard print stationary of yrs. tell them some people only come around once an eon. and this week shes in hong kong, but next week she will omg be in toronto canada usa jr. sign it, kiss it, and spritz some of that joy on there. on the back of the envelope put your name, their address, and the date you wanna audition and the time. put the envelope in a fed ex box and send it to them.

Scott T. Sterling: What are you feelings about Wolfmother “Phase II”? These new details just emerged from their label Modular:

“Watch this space for some exciting news from Wolfmother early next week!

Singer Andrew Stockdale has been busy writing the next Wolfmother album and will head into the studio with producer Alan Moulder over the next few weeks. The latest version of the band incarnate is performing this weekend at the MTV Music Video Awards in Australia. The performance will be recorded & telecast worldwide via a new MTV initiative called World Stage to 160+ countries on Friday April 17.”

Scott T. Sterling: 2. Are you feeling any better yet?

i amd doing better. in part because you are letting me know that whiteboy afro 70s rock is coming back from down under. oh and look at this scott t sterling, its an audience bootleg video from this weekends vmas in austrailia:

yes the force is strong with him. hopefully he can rid himself of all that carrottop business going on with his hair.

Christian: Chicago vs Vancouver. First round in the NHL playoffs. Predictions?

of all the canadian hockey teams that remain, the canucks are my favorite. and i dont say that just because my second most wild encounter happened there. with that said, the hawks will own the nucks. the last time they played chicago fell apart but that was the regular season. the playoffs start tonight in a way because this game secures home ice and if the hawks get it its over.

Sarah: If you weren’t raised in a religious household, how did you come to love the Lord as much as you do?

my mom thnks it was a religious household but we didnt say grace at dinner unless it was a holiday, we didnt go to church unless it was a holiday and we didnt sacrifice lambs and spread their blood on the posts of the house unless, you guessed it, it was a holiday. which believe it or not might be the reason why i have the relationship to the Lord that i do today – it wasnt forced.

Rock Baby: Do you think Patience is hotter with Blonde or Brown hair?

because Patience’s beauty comes from within shes hot regardless whats dyed into her locks. but i will say, when i first saw her in austin with blonde hair i was all “oh no now movie stars are into the Grates” cuz i thought she was some starlet. when she turned out to be Patience then that was sorta weird at first because she was previous more of an everygirl, but now shes bigger and deffer. but she should be. rock needs her help.

g/d: art project # 0: your collage would contain?

there was a time when i would rock a collage. and my truest really loves doing them. but me, i love my magazines waaaay too much to chop em up for some arts and crafts project and all that would end up being is a collection of models id wanna get drunk with and cars id wanna wreck. so mostly the cast of the hills and bmws and rolls.

Sharp: I did a post under 1000 words filled with lots of pictures, and I thought of your photo essays while I did it. What can I improve?

i say this as a poetry major. run as fast from poems as possible. theres only a tiny amount of people who can get away with poetry these days and all of those people hate themselves privately. great subject, good pics, but id even say go for performance art before you go the way of the romantics. more photo essays definatly though.

Unsilent Majority: You’re well-traveled sir. What Should I do in Washington D.C. when I go there in May? And I don’t mean give me a museum map.

because of the high density of african americans in our nations capital may i recommend any of these fine soul food establishments: Oohs and Ahhs or the Hitching Post. If you’re veggie/vegan, may i suggest Soul Vegetarian Exodus.

David: Is the big east really the best conference in college b-ball or is it just that the media

as a member of the media, i can say that we are never to blame for anything, particularly perceptions. and seeing as a state school just beat the big east champs, i guess the real fans will have to look toward the big west to fill their basketball jones.

Joe: Tony, where, oh where, could my baby be?

if youre lucky shes braiding my baby’s hair as they study for finals.
