went to a gay bar last night

shhhh dont tell anyone.

crazy thing about this bar is i pass it every day on the way to work. and even though ive lived in this same apt for 10 years ive never been in this bar. its pretty famous. could be infamous for all i know.

when in lived in frisco gay bars were just normal bars with gay guys in em. our favorite one was called the Transfer because none of the patrons were interested in the pool table, so it was a terrific place to play pool.

this bar is called Akbar. it was a double birthday celebration for two guys who used to work at Metromix, so several metromix ladies were in attendance, both named ali (one adds an e to her name for flair). thus i was invited.

fun thing about life? one minute you have your hair up in curlers, thinking about calling it a night, next thing you know your robot text machine fires up and the ticker tape prints out a message saying “wanna drink?” and before you know it youre on the corner of sunset and fountain at akbar.

gotta say, akbar is pretty awesome. very nice clientelle and the bartenders seemed downright happy to be there. theyd bounce over to you with a little spin. theyd dance when a good song came on (havent heard Bronski Beat in forever), and happily poured your drink with a smile.

but the best room was the dance room. huge disco ball provided pretty much the only light. and for some reason the girls (cough scorpios) had to be persuaded to dance to the good time music (killers, franz, 80s, etc) but once we were out there it was very fun. just enough people. not too many. great weather. perfect amigos.

then when we exited omg bacon wrapped hotdog guy was just sitting there flipping the onions and peppers around his weird little cart and it smelled so good.

walked home with a pretty girl from the bar. and what did we do? lets see if i can remember.

oh yes, we listened to rare led zeppelin and tried on hats.
