even though he was one of the greatest hitters of all time,
he will probably be best known for the Pine Tar Incident
where after he hit a home run in the 9th against the Yankees
the greatest manager of all time, Billy Martin, challenged his generous use of pine tar on his bat
and after a short but diligent investigation at home plate,
the umpire agreed with Billy, pointed at the KC bench and reversed the homer
and threw Brett out of the game for being a dirty cheater!
the Royals, naturally challenged the ruling and the American League commissioner
in his wisdom
overruled the decision SOMETHING COMMISSIONERS ARE TOO COWARDLY TO DO THESE DAYS IN PRO SPORTS
and said sure he used way more pine tar than the rules say
but pine tar on a bat does not enhance the trajectory of a ball being struck by the bat
and the Royals ended up winning the game, as they should have.
Saturday the Omaha Storm Chasers are celebrating today’s birthday boy’s biggest night
by having a Bobble Head day of #5.
but instead of making his head wobble around, they’re having his arms shake like mad.
too bad i’m seeing the Black Keys on Saturday or else i’d hitchhike to Omaha
