on the very same day that the Food Network canned its big star

the Cooking Channel debuted its brightest new stars

yes indeedie, your girls next door, Alie and Georgia launched their new series

    Trippin Out

by going to Sin City to check out Absinthe, a below freezing bar,

and my favorite: an fancy dancy all u can eat buffet.

they even ate latenight giant pancakes at the Peppermill.

very happy for these two classy ladies who are super funny and perfectly suited for this series.

if Food Network was smart they’d swoop in and give Alie and Georgia a multi year deal

today is juliette lewis’ birthday, shes 24

    juliette lewis

ive seen her play a ton of times

but the best pic i ever took of her was in 2005

at the Troubadour in West Hollywood

    Tsar of all people opened

    i was working at Buzznet

they loaned me a Canon Rebel and i bought a long lens

and i went all over the joint

but it was this shot with no flash from upstairs that really captured her tight outfit

    long hair

and, to me, beautifully colorful spirit

    the best.

happy birthday rock star movie star wild orchid

  4. john mcafee may have just made the years greatest video

    the self proclaimed eccentric millionaire

does all the things you wouldnt think a fellow in his position

    would do

but he does them with gusto, humor,

and the most curious dig at a particular website.

all while dissing the product that got him filthy rich.

the world has indeed turned insane.

wash out your red solo cups.

this might be the time for me to go into film reviewing

the critics didnt like super man

the fact that the critics are that out of step from what audiences like

SHOULD BE CHILLING TO THE INDUSTRY

    which industry?

    the ginormous film reviewer industry.

speaking of which, how many are there left who you’d want to see on tv?

or who you really truly rely on when making your movie making descions?

there are a few i like, but most of them i avoid like the plague because

    a) they seem to have no problem doling out spoilers willy freakin nilly

    b) they come across as super smartypantses

    c) they pretend that these films weren’t made for one reason: to please the audience

    of course there are exceptions

like the little man in the chair in frisco

    the little man

what more do you need than that?

well sometimes you do need a rant against a certain dumb trend or terrible story

but theyre never about the right things.

also most films are reviewed by reviewers in sterile screenings.

there should be a week moratorium on reviews so critics could see films in public

    with the madding crowd!

i love seeing if my stuck up little neighborhood will clap at the end of movies.

    ironman: no

    superman: yes

    this is the end: loudly

shouldnt that be in the review? or doesnt what the audience think matters?

i would think that if film critiques are part of journalism, then why exclude reportage from some other witnesses?

sports journalists tell you how the crowd reacts, so to political reporters.

anyways. the critics blew it with superman. yes a few moments were ridiculous.

but mama mia the opening 15 minutes alone sets the bar so high that the fact the following gazillion minutes isnt a complete letdown is a miracle.

    man of steel

i give man of steel a super crazy clapping little man

  6. saw two really good movies today

    20130619-042417.jpg

man of steel was crazy good
best special effects I’ve ever seen
and somehow better than Star Trek and Iron Man 3 combined

yet only half of the critics liked it

true there were some weak, confusing, and cringe worthy moments

but then another wave of awesome showed up

it’s actually good that the problems existed in the film

    no need to show off

    20130619-042441.jpg

then I finally saw Searching For Sugar Man

which I remembered had been nominated for an Oscar last year for best doc

    and maybe won or something

So I watched it and had to stop it because I was going to cry it was so beautiful.

there’s nothing I like better than crazy stories about music

and this is probably the craziest story I ever heard about music.

    and sweet.

Die Antwoord new video “Cookie Thumper”

i cant believe people thought this was a fake band not too long ago
and by people i mean professional rock and roll journalists
not only are they real but theyre really good.
this video should make MTV more ashamed than normal for not showing videos any more
not that they would show this video even in the bad old days
but this is the type of video that would have gotten then all the cred they shoulda been getting
instead they get cred for showing duran duran and mj vids
AS IF IT TAKES A GENIOUS TO SHOW THOSE
and the cars and ah ha and madona ext ect ext

is there one person out there with any courage doing cool stuff at a high level?
